Russia's new security baby

Would Russia’s initiative to create yet another anti-terror combating organisation help in creating a better world or would it be just another forum for frivolous and aimless talks? Amidst the current global financial crisis, Russia has been successful in persisting in its uniform economic growth and now, after realising its potential, Russia is planning to propose many such projects in future to show its fatherly attitude to the rest of the world. President Dmitry Medvedev along with Dmitry Rogozin, his ambassador to NATO, has outlined plans to conduct a global international conference in Moscow next year. Almost all NATO and European Union (EU) members, some of Russia’s ex-Soviet allies, China and perhaps India are expected to meet to establish a new security organisation to handle issues like terrorism and illegal immigrations.

There is no doubt that this is an applaudable effort by Russia, but still it remains uncertain how will this plan of anti-terror mechanism benefit the rest of the world. This certainly reminds us of a similar organisation called Shangai Co-operation Organisations (SCO), created by Russia itself a few years back.
